Plenty of people scoffed at the original Google announcement about Chrome OS. It's just another minimalist Linux distro, they said -- but that's actually not quite true. Unlike most lightweight Linux distributions, there won't be any traditional local apps apart from the Chrome browser.

If you'd like a Chrome OS-like experience without having to give up apps like Transmission, VLC, or DropBox? Take a look at the new release from the developers behind Peppermint.

Dubbed Peppermint Ice, the new spin replaces Firefox with Chromium and includes the same selection of web app shortcuts (Facebook, Seesmic, Google Docs, Hulu, Pandora, etc.) and local apps (like DropBox, Tranmission, and XChat). Want to add your own web app shortcuts? It's a snap using the built in Ice tool. And since Peppermint is derived from Linux Mint, apt-get is available via the terminal -- meaning you can install boatloads of other apps if you want to.

Kendall Weaver, who heads up Peppermint development, told me that on his Core2 notebook with an OCZ Vertex SSD Peppermint Ice boots up in about 6 seconds. That's definitely speedy enough to compete with just about any "instant-on" OS I've tried out. Even on my admittedly poorly-configured, Atom-powered Gateway netbook Peppermint boots in 10 seconds... Nice!

Peppermint is a solid Linux distribution for people who just want to surf but don't want to give up the flexibility which Linux distros typically provide. The interface is clean and simple, and should be familiar to anyone who's ever used Windows XP. Hey, if my 5-year-old can jump in and find his YouTube favorites on Peppermint, the learning curve can't be too steep (if it even exists).

Good news if you're a Firefox fan: Kendall also informed me that Peppermint One will be switching to Firefox 4.0 when the second beta arrives. The switch will provide a welcome performance boost, though you might have to deal with some broken extensions temporarily -- although if you're installing Firefox betas you're probably used to that by now...

In face book go to bottom and hit "view original post" for better view!

Well two days ago I payed in a ping pong tourny again. Got 3rd place in singles and 2nd in double. Following day, volley ball game for losers bracket for our commander's cup competition. We lost. 2 point from the end I come down and pop, pop, pop. At least that what I felt in my left knee. Went and saw doc today, he doesn't think I tore any ligaments but could have a meniscus tear. Will have to wait till the swelling goes down and check it again in a few weeks. I may have to go get a MRI and see what happens from there.

Big wrench in the program which means I guess I will have to eat right to lose fat instead of the try and work out a lot but still eat ice cream method!

Time is flying by. Finished moving all our stuff today. Stayed up late yesterday getting most of everything moved. Started early today and got every moved and the office is not arranged but everything is not in place yet. Should be good tomorrow. Because of the move and me doing a inventory on top of it I haven't work out. Not to mention my hand, but will hit it again tomorrow.

Today was a hot one. Up to 120 or so. Did a half mile jog in full uniform in the AM. That is how far away the chow hall is from our new building. It is about a mile from my room to work. I may be taking the bus.
Played volleyball again tonight. We didn't do to well so we are out of this tournament.
After losing I figured I would hit the gym.

WORK OUT

"Randy"

75 pound power snatch, 75 reps for time.
I finished in 14:50 and ripped off a callus on palm below my pinky finger.

In case you don't know what a power snatch here is a video

Access="never" allowFullScreen="true" wmode="transparent" type="application/x-shockwave-flash">

I didn't do all that jumping, she is over doing it a little. as I got near 75 I did have to jump a little but not a mull kick!

Haven't been to the gym like I should be. I was pretty sore so that always makes me not want to go. But I did play in a ping pong tournament on the 31st of May. I got third place in the doubles which got me a 10 buck gift card.
Today I played volleyball. Our unit is having a BN competition with many different sports. Our Company won the game which would be the first time in any sport but ping pong. It was fun, I like volleyball. Will be really busy with moving and Generals and what not this whole week but hopefully will make it to the gym!

I am sore today. I was feeling lazy but while in my room I decided to to head over to the community center because I thought there was a table tennis tournament, but I was wrong. Luckily there were a few people there hitting a ball around and I was able to get in and play for a good hour or so. The tournament is tomorrow which I will go and play in.  I am not as good as some of the guys but you always get better when playing with better people, should be fun!

My boss got me to hit the gym with him today. He wanted to do chest. As you know I do crossfit mostly so I don't do a muscle group normally but I haven't benched in awhile so I figured I go along.
4 sets
incline, flat, then decline

I have to say I do want to be able to bench my body weight at least a few time which I cant right now.
I did about everything around 95#s which is very light. I know at one time I could hit bigger numbers but it all good. I haven't been consistent in for ever so I'll just keep at it.

28May10

I am going to start working out with a guy from my unit. He goes the gym on a regular basis which will get me to go to.

7 rounds 21 shoulder press 21 back extensions
round 1 70# mistake way to heavy
round 2-7 35#
time 18:19

my arms are killing me. was great though!

So I head down to the gym because they are going to do a deadlift competition and I know someone who was going to enter. I see that not very many people are there. I ask one of the ladies who gets prices and she says top three. I wonder over to the table and there are only 2 people entered in my weight class. So I sign up. 3rd place for sure. Any way I had no clue what my max deadlift was so I just picked a random weight. ended up doing
225
245
275

Could have gone heavier but now I know. Will start with the 275 next time if I dont try to max out before the next competition.

then I went and played some table tennis....

Primal Challenge

Decided to start the primal challenge from marks daily apple.

Ate a protein bar for breakfast.
Did a short workout during lunch.
5 pull ups 10 push ups 15 squats for 5 rounds.

Ate a grilled chicken salad and some fruit salad for lunch.
Heading home to get my grass fed beef eating on!

Here is a review of Good calories, Bad calories by Gary Taubes. I have not read this book but have read many reviews and watched a few good videos of Gary and dig what he says.

So I am at the vet the other day because my dog was not keeping down his food and I mentioned I tried to get my dog to eat a raw meat diet. I said I "tried" because he would not eat the raw meat.
She tells my dog "good job, don't eat that raw meat"
Me: I disagree but that's not the point.
Vet: well if he was a wild animal then it would be ok.
Me: genetically he is no diffrent from a Wolf
Vet: you are genetically almost like a monkey, do you eat like one?"
I say "YES".

Here is a new article that kinda proves it.

Paleo diet

I am a big believer in eating like this, Check out this video. I don't dig the evolution part, but the time line is good and that is how God original made us. To live in a garden, not toiling to raise crops.
Lisa and I have lost 20 or more lbs eating like this plus the Zone diet. We are not super strict but try our best!
